How long have you been in business?

Almost five years.  We opened on D-Day (June 4) in 2003.

What exactly do you do?

We ship anything, anywhere, domestic or international, regardless of size, shape, or weight. We ship anything from overnight letters to ground packages to air freight to ocean freight and everything in between and are experts at packaging furniture, antiques, artwork, pictures, tools and equipment, glass items, electronics, and the list goes on. We’ve shipped artwork to New England, a plasma TV to Alaska, a solar panel to Mexico, even a car to Germany! Whether it’s a small item or a pallet load, we make sure it’s packaged to withstand the rigors of the shipping system, and are specially trained to do that.  We specialize in using only the most appropriate packing materials, including custom wood crating when needed. In addition, we offer declared value coverage for all items we handle, including glass, up to $50,000.

We also provide business services like private mailbox rental, rubber stamps, business card and stationery printing. We always have a qualified notary available too.

How long have you been in Austin?

My family and I have been in Austin for nearly 16 years. We say we're tri-coastal, having lived east, west, and on the gulf.  I grew up in New York City, went to college in Buffalo, spent a lifetime in Cleveland, OH (one year), and then 12 years in Charlotte, NC. Before coming to Texas we lived in the bay area in California for two years.

Does your business offer any unique products or services?

Like I said, we specialize in custom packing and ensuring the item is shipped in the best possible way, based on the customer's needs. That's why we offer choices with multiple carriers. We know which ones do the best job in each situation.

What do others NOT know about you and/ or your business that you would like to share?

Just recently, I became the Area Marketer for Pak Mail in central Texas. This means I am selling Pak Mail franchises in a 16-county area that basically goes from Waco to San Marcos and Llano to Giddings. So, if you know anyone who's fed up with corporate life and sitting in a cubicle playing politics, send them my way. I'd love to talk to them about owning their own Pak Mail!

Have you or your business received any awards or certifications?

In February, I won the 2007 Pak Mail All-Star Team award at our international convention.

Any special accomplishments?

I have a wonderful wife who's put up with me for nearly 32 years and two great kids. One graduated from college last May and is getting ready for grad school in the fall as well as getting married the end of September. The other will graduate in December and become a history teacher.

If you could give advice to those just starting out in their careers, what would you say?

Learn what you're good at and make it into your core competency. Then do it better than anyone else!

What is the best advice you've ever received?

Pick your battles. Every issue does not have the same importance. Make sure five cent issues have a five cent response and $500 issues have a $500 response.

If you didn't have this job, what would you be doing instead?

Looking out the window in a cabin in the Swiss Alps!

Anything else you'd like to add?

Integrity is who you are and what you do when no one is watching. Your personal integrity is something no one can take away from you. You can guard it or give it away.

What is your location? How can readers find you?

We're on the northbound side of 183, right before Anderson Mill Rd and directly behind Texas Roadhouse at 13359 North Hwy 183.

Chair's Corner
G. Steven Bray
Chair-Elect
Last fall, we created a special committee to examine the Chamber's vision for its future. Appropriately enough, we call it the Vision Committee, and its members (Claudia Machell and myself from the Board; Carol Roberson, Chris Oddo, and Archie Alexander from our membership) represent a nice cross-section of our Chamber.

The Chamber's vision has two foci: membership and community. The membership focus is the responsibility of the Member Benefits Committee (capably chaired by Claudia). The community focus will be the responsibility of the Outreach Committee, and it is this focus the Vision Committee is tackling now.

The Vision Committee has determined that to achieve its goal we need to sample the activities of various organizations already active in the community. This is where you get involved. The committee invites you to suggest events occurring this spring for organizations you think warrant the committee's attention. Possible events include walks, bike rides, career days, and blood drives.

Send your recommendations to any of the Vision Committee members. The committee will promote events that have the active participation of at least 5 members and benefit the community.

And to encourage participation, we're offering a specially designed Chamber t-shirt to each member who participates. (Several members will be sporting the t-shirt at the April Network Nites.)

Finally, if you have an interest in helping form the Chamber's vision, please get in touch with me.
Welcome!
