Member Benefits
The Chamber has created a number of new member benefits over the last couple years including Goodie Bags, Member-to-Member Business Exchange, Member News, Member Spotlight, and others. However, in polling our members, the Board has discovered that very few members know about these benefits, much less take advantage of them. So, we are launching a new monthly email that will highlight your Chamber benefits and explain exactly how you can take advantage of them. Look for the first email this month.
Chamber Buddies
New members need to know how to leverage their Chamber membership to impact their businesses. Who better to coach them than other members. This month we're launching the Chamber Buddies program. The purpose of the Buddy program is to make new members feel welcome, encourage them to attend Chamber events, encourage them to get involved on a Chamber committee, and introduce them to the member benefits.
A Chamber Buddy relationship can take many forms: friend, coach, mentor, ambassador. It's whatever the new member needs and whatever the member buddy can give. We expect Buddy relationships to be active for the first 2 to 4 months after a new member joins, but the relationship may last a lifetime.
I invite all of you to consider becoming a Member Buddy. We'll train you on the member benefits, and we'll create a program for Buddies to share best practices. Not only is this a great chance to network, but think about the positive effect you can have on your business by learning to effectively use your Chamber benefits.
Drop me an email if you're interested at chair@NWAustinChamber.org.

How long have you been in business?
7 years.
What exactly do you do in your business? What do you offer clients?
I help buyers and sellers of residential properties in and around the Greater Austin area. I offer my clients great personal attention and detailed focus to identify the appropriate home or investment property for them or to sell a home or investment property for the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time.
How long have you been in Austin?
15 years, but have been coming to Austin all my life. I have had family is Austin for over 100 years, and I've been coming to Austin to visit my grandparents and extended family since I was born. I distinctly remember throwing rocks at the Missouri-Pacific trains from West Enfield Park before MoPac was built. When I was young, I used to help my grandparents with their properties - mowing lawns and the like.
Where have you lived before? What brought you to Austin?
I grew up in Central Houston. I moved to Austin when I had the opportunity to open a staffing company franchise with a partner.
Does your business offer any unique products or services?
We offer cutting edge real estate technology for home buyers and sellers.
What do others NOT know about you and/or your business that you would like to share?
Our real estate company sponsors many local charities. Each month we hold client appreciation parties and activities to raise money for those charities.
Have you or your business received any awards, certifications, or special accomplishments?
Our office has a Luxury Home Sales Certification. This means we are uniquely trained and qualified to sell homes over $500,000. These homes require special marketing efforts.
We also hold Buyer's Specialist Certifications, which means we have been educated on the special needs of a variety of different types of buyers.
If you could give advice to those just starting out in their careers, what would you say?
Be conservative with the money you earn. Save for a rainy day. Don't try every marketing idea that comes up.
What is the best advice you've ever received?
Do the right thing regardless of the circumstances.
If you didn't have this job, what would you be doing instead?
Standing in the eye of a hurricane reporting the weather.
Do you have a website?
www.yourgroupaustin.com
John adds that this is the most up-to-date, cutting edge home search tool available.
